Florida Coalition for Children Annual Awards Information
Deadline to submit: Friday, April 26, 2019
We all work with outstanding individuals who deserve recognition and praise. Why not nominate them for one of the Florida Coalition for Children’s Annual Awards?
- Must be an FCC member agency to submit nominations.
- Winners within each specific category since 2013 are not eligible. Winners prior to 2013 are eligible.
- The award recipient agrees to be present at the Florida Coalition for Children Awards Celebration, held in conjunction with FCC’s annual conference.
- The member agency whose nominee is selected as an award recipient agrees to provide transportation and any lodging expenses for the recipients(s).
*Note: We will not be accepting short videos for nominees this year, unlike previous years. Instead we will be projecting a photo of each nominee, so please be sure to submit if chosen.*
BOARD MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Nominee must have served for at least two years on an FCC member agency’s board and have shown consistent evidence of personal dedication through time and talent and understanding of their service to the community.
COMMITTEE MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD (NEW)
The committee member of the year award will be provided to one of FCC’s most dedicated committee member or chair who works tirelessly with their colleagues from around the state to improve our system of care.
FOSTER PARENT OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award is granted to an individual or a married couple who has provided more than just a healthy and safe place to live, but a friend and advocate to children in need.
CASE MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD
Candidates for this award will exhibit the determination, special talents and patience needed daily to bring focus and the goal of permanency to each child served.
SUPPORT STAFF OF THE YEAR AWARD
This award is granted to the “team player” that even though they may not have direct contact with the children served, without their contribution the agency’s mission and vision could not be fulfilled.
OUTSTANDING YOUTH AWARD
This award is granted to a youth, 18 years and older served by an FCC member agency who continues to strive to make life better for those youth still receiving necessary services.
RESIDENTIAL CAREGIVER AWARD
Nominee of this award will provide the love and care for children and youth in residential group settings. Their drive and determination in providing safe, stable and loving homelike environments exemplifies the love and compassion they exude everyday throughout their actions, creating in our children a sense of belonging.
THERAPIST OF THE YEAR
This award is granted to a therapist within our ranks whose skills, talent and effectiveness makes him/her an outstanding and compassionate professional.
CHAMPION FOR CHILDREN
A champion is an advocate, a defender of someone’s rights and a warrior. The Champion for Children award is presented each year to an individual who works tirelessly for the well-being of the children in their care. The individual exhibits all the characteristics of a champion.
LIGHTING THE WAY AWARD
This award is presented to an individual who has shown tremendous leadership in lighting the way for Florida’s abused, abandoned and neglected children. Given each year to an individual who has made significant contributions to finding forever families for the children in our care, this individual can hold any position within the child welfare system.
LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR
Awarded to a legislator who has gone above and beyond to advocate for Florida’s abused, abandoned, neglected and at-risk children.
VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD (New)
This individual works hard throughout the year to provide Florida’s children and families with the best care possible, and it’s not even their job! Do you know of a volunteer that consistently provides help to our community of care? This award is to recognize those who dedicate their free time to helping others.
GEORGE SHELDON LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD (New)
As a state legislator, DCF Secretary, Deputy Attorney General for Central Florida, Acting Assistant Secretary for the federal Administration for Children and Families in the United States Department of Health and Human Services and as CEO of one of Florida’s lead community-based care agencies, George Sheldon committed his life to helping the children and families of Florida. A candidate for this award will have completed a career filled with a lifetime of service and accomplishments that made a difference in the lives of Florida’s neediest children and their families much like the man the award has been named for.
