Tallahassee — Today Governor Ron DeSantis released his budget recommendations for FY 2020-’21.
Included in his recommendations to the Florida Legislature was $44.7 million for children and families, which includes:
- $20 million to support post-adoption services for children adopted from foster care;
- $4 million to expand Telehealth behavioral health services to children in K-12 public schools;
- $11.7 million to enhance accountability in the child welfare system through a quality assurance program; and
- $9 million to increase community mental health programs and services.
“Governor DeSantis and DCF Secretary Poppell continue to show their dedicated leadership to children and families in our state who are in crisis,” said Florida Coalition for Children CEO, Kurt Kelly.
“Their vision, courage and highly collaborative process with community partners throughout the state to provide the right resources, funding and focused accountability, will ensure we lessen the number of families in crisis, and that our nationally recognized community-based care model will continue to transform services and improve outcomes in Florida for our abused, abandoned, neglected and at-risk children.”
